I am fascinated by this shit and it's not just true crime wine moms who are to blame, this has been happening for decades. This is the West Memphis 3, this is a larger culture of cold case hobbyists who just become convinced of someone's innocence and dedicate their codependent ouroboros lives to it and then they get a documentary made using the same quirky music as all of them. Most of these documentaries are made by people who believe the perpetrator is innocent. The director of "Capturing the Friedmans" notoriously advocates for their innocence. "Making a Murderer" is the most egregious example and there's still people who believe Steven Avery is innocent even though the victim's car and burned bones were found on his property. This phenomenon has deep roots.
