Welcome to HICKTOWN. A new micro-drama about the things we inherit, the things we tolerate, and what happens when staying starts to cost more than leaving. Set in rural Georgia, HICKTOWN follows Amber as she tries to navigate family, relationships, money, race, politics and survival in a place where everybody has an opinion about who you’re supposed to be. This project started as an idea I had for a feature film and became something completely different — a short-form series created specifically for social media. 10 episodes. 2–3 minutes at a time. Back in 2023 I was hosting a charity even in Compton . I was having a very bad skin day . I was breaking out really bad . The reason why , I wanted to get pregnant and I had to quit all my acne medication and my hormones were crazy . Unfortunately I had to deal with acne for about two years to have my son because I’ve always had to be continuously on treatments to keep my skin clear . I couldn’t even use retinols anymore and use most topicals. I didn’t think it mattered the event was to give free toys to the kids in need and I had my band along with others play to help raise money for the community center . Anyway a guy that follows me went on my livestream on day and said how and my skin was . I was so embarrassed. I felt ugly and disgusting and this is why people always wonder why girls like us are so self conscious and always worried about our looks , we aren’t allowed to have bad days . Since then I’ve cleared my skin completely with Accutane and intense skin treatments . But I’m sad to know I can’t even have a bad moment without people being cruel about it .
